"Intro. to Fusing and Slumping" with Cyndi Seeberger: October 2, 2010

This exciting, fast paced, hands-on workshop is designed to introduce students to the terminology, tools and techniques of basic fusing and slumping of kiln formed glass. Taught by a professional glass artisan, the class will center on building a foundation of essential knowledge to include improving upon your glass cutting skills and use of a circle cutter, design techniques and glass compatibility. Students will explore the application of frit, powders and stringers as well as glass paints. We will cover the fundamentals of kiln operation; develop firing schedules for future reference and proper mold preparation. Most importantly, we’ll cover studio safety and troubleshooting.

"New Heights in Glass Fusing" with Patty Gray: September 9-10 2010!

glass fusing art by Patty GrayHollander Fusing Center is proud to announce Patty Gray as our guest instructor for a two day workshop on September 9-10 at our new spacious fused glass teaching center. Lunch will be provided on each workshop day. This hands-on workshop will give students the opportunity to explore and experiment with numerous advanced kiln forming techniques and the chance to interact with this incredible artist and instructor. Patty will demonstrate her trademark coming technique, the manipulation of molten glass while in the kiln, pattern bar designing, cutting, and techniques to incorporate pattern bars into your projects. She will explore the processes to create depth and surface design elements using stringers, gold leaf, colorful mica powders, metal inclusions and glass paints. You will also be introduced to several cold working techniques and equipment elevating your fused glass into art show/gallery quality art.

Student’s main project will be designing a 10” bowl or sculptural piece, 1x1x8 inch pattern bar, pyramid glass casting, designing and cutting pattern bars on tile saw, experience combing in a small kiln, 6x6 inch mosaic fusing, 5x5 inch bas relief casting and frit wafer cookies.

Hollander Fusing Center Classes Begin

Instructor: Cyndi Seeberger

In this fast paced, one day workshop, students will learn the basic techniques for fusing dichroic glass as you create state-of-the-art pendants. No previous glass work experience is needed for this class, but glass cutting skills are always a plus. Students will create several jewelry pieces incorporating various dichroic techniques such as layering multiple colors, creating depth, developing textures, etching and more. Student’s projects will be fused and available for pick up the following week.

August 7, 2010 (2 Day Workshop)  •  9:00am - 2:00pm  •  Instructor: Cyndi Seeberger

Prerequisite: Introduction to Fusing and Slumping

The focus of this class is on the technical aspects of designing larger pieces, working with layers, strip bowl construction and the use of dams. Learn techniques in draping, creating molds with the use of fiber products and glass weaving. Explore the endless possibilities of creating your own custom glass using materials such as mica powders, glass paints, cold combing with glass powders/frit and metal inclusions. Students will be introduced to coldworking applications with emphasis on equipment operation and safety. Overall, the class will provide a strong foundation in design techniques, firing schedules for larger, thicker pieces, sandblasting and surface treatments.

Director of Hollander Fusing Center Appointed

Cyndi Seeberger photoCyndi Seeberger is the newly appointed Director at the Hollander Fusing Center. Not only will Cyndi be the woman in charge, overseeing all operations at the HFC, but she will be showing off her talents through exhibitions of her work as well as class instruction.

Cyndi comes to the Hollander Fusing Center with over 25 years of experience in the glass industry. Visitors and students alike will not only get to experience her true love for glass art and rare talents but will also have the opportunity to see her in action and be given excellent instruction from an extraordinary artist.

Cyndi was recently featured in the publication "Best of American Glass Artists Volume II".

New Glass Fusing Studio in Houston, TX

Hollander Fusing Center logoIf glass fusing or art is your passion, this is where you need to be! We are one of the largest, state of the art teaching facilities in the Southwest that is solely devoted to the fused glass industry.
The Hollander Fusing Center will offer a wide variety of classes for the beginner to the advanced taught by recognized local glass artisans. We will also be hosting several national glass artists throughout the year with Patty Gray as our first visiting artist on September 9-10, 2010.
